A Letter from DSNA President Elizabeth Knowles

I hope that this letter finds you well, and that your spirits have been kept up as we continue to navigate this time of COVID.

As my term as President comes to an end, it is my privilege to be able to announce the 2021 DSNA Officer Elections.  Our current Vice-President/President Elect Ed Finegan will take over as President, creating a vacancy for the next Vice-President/President-Elect of the DSNA. Two of our Members-at-Large on the Executive Board, Sarah Ogilvie and Peter Gilliver,  are finishing out their four-year terms, creating two vacancies, and our current Executive Secretary Kory Stamper has also finished her four-year term and is stepping down from that office. I am deeply grateful for the invaluable contribution of all those colleagues, including those named above, who have tirelessly served on the Board, the more particularly since their unwavering effort and commitment has been made against the backdrop of this strange and troubled time.

While such changes are inevitable, they could be particularly challenging in a period when we have already endured so much change. However, our Nominating Committee has put forward what I hope you will agree is a strong slate of candidates for the upcoming Executive Board vacancies. I am confident that these nominees will ensure the continued success and flourishing of the Society for years to come. I would like to personally thank the members of the Nominating Committee—Michael Adams, Katy Isaacs, Sarah Ogilvie, and Orin Hargraves—for their thoughtful and thorough work.

We also have the pleasant duty of electing three new Fellows of the Society to fill the current vacancies: I hope and believe that you will agree with me that those nominated will add lustre to the Society.

During this election, we are also presenting several proposed changes to our current Code of Regulations for your approval as members of the Society. These changes are meant to bring the regulations of the Society in line with the actual practice of the Society, and to bring us into better accord with our sister societies and their governance.

Our election ballot will be available for three weeks, and our election decisions will be announced at the Business Meeting which will take place on May 21, 2021, at noon EDT (US). An invitation to the Business Meeting will be sent to all DSNA members in good standing in advance of the meeting, along with more information regarding our first virtual conference on 4 June.

I cannot end without expressing my personal gratitude for all the support and kindness I have received while serving as your President. To have been asked to do so was a great honour, and I have appreciated the opportunity to give back to the Society something of the friendship and professional support I have had from it over many years.

My warm and sincere good wishes to all.

Elizabeth Knowles, President, DSNA
